Project Description

Pedway 2.0, as we call it, is the second pedestrian bridge we’ll be helping to bring to Eastern Kentucky University’s campus.

Located over the very busy Eastern Bypass highway, separating the EKU Coliseum from their Keene residential tower, the new bridge will be higher and longer than its predecessor.

Early designs for the structure call for steel trusses, similar to railway bridges, clad in perforated metal paneling that allows the structure to breathe while still providing some separation for pedestrians from the elements.  On one end will be an elevator and stair tower, while the campus-side tower includes a curving ramp that connects to the existing sidewalks.

Each tower boasts the same curved steel roof system that the sister bridge displays, forming a common architectural language that begins to define the primary campus access points.

Similar to Lancaster Bridge, the Bypass Bridge will bring an element of safety and efficiency to a high traffic area for pedestrians.
