Project Description

Floyd County Public Library (FCPL) needed some help with a new library branch for Floyd County – a new “Eastern Branch”.

Initially,  i/A was tasked with the evaluation of two vacant sites in Minnie, Kentucky for the development of a 5,000 square-foot, all-new building.  After completing two separate Pre-Design assessments, it became obvious that both sites had multiple limitations for both the program and parking.

Not long after that determination was made, FCPL found a vacant structure located on 4 acres on Route 80, a busy eastern Kentucky thoroughfare.  The existing building needed an extensive renovation but was large enough for the requested program and the potential for future development – with ample parking. After another Pre-Design package, it was determined that this was the right location for the future branch. The property was purchased by the FCPL and an exciting new project was born.
