In the heart of Renfro Valley, not far from Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, is a small plot of land once belonging to 19th century Kentuckian, John Lair. It’s a gently sloping, unassuming, yet beautiful place that begs for human interaction – at least, more than it’s currently getting.
It’s in this spot that Rockcastle County plans to construct it’s very own salute to our veterans. Which veterans – you ask? All of them. Every single one spanning nearly a quarter of a millennium.
i/A has been working closely with the Memorial Committee to custom-create a space that honors our veterans, educates visitors on the history of war and the veterans’ efforts, and becomes a destination for those seeking peace and tranquility. This will be done by constructing a memorial with features highlighting the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War 1, World War 2, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War and beyond.
The site will create several different opportunities for visitors to have their own unique experience. Whether you’re going to honor a friend or family member, learn more about the history of war, or simply going for a get-together with others, there will be opportunities there for you to maximize that experience.
We’re very early in the design phase so keep checking back for more updates…
