Since 1875, The Red Mile has been an important part of the cultural and physical fabric of Lexington, central Kentucky, and the world of horse racing. It is one of the oldest harness racing tracks still operating in the world today.
Though The Red Mile (so named due to the red clay making up the track) has maintained a prominent location on the fringes of downtown Lexington, it has slowly been slipping into obscurity due in large part to its dated facilities and amenities. While the city of Lexington has been making great strides to become more architecturally and culturally progressive in recent years, the aging Red Mile has been left behind.
integrity/Architecture was hired by the joint Red Mile / Keeneland team to renovate and expand the existing Red Mile facility in order to accommodate an “Entertainment Center” that will house an all-new betting and wagering experience. Every detail of the design, from the arrangement of spaces to the styling of the exterior, serves a specific purpose. The exterior design concept pulls inspiration from the culture of the Red Mile and greater horse racing community.
