WORKFORCE PATHWAY AT KIT CARSON COMMONS
The Kentucky River Foothills Development Council (KRFDC) worked closely with iA to design and construct a new mixed-use housing community on Kit Carson Drive at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) in Richmond, Kentucky. The facility was designed to meet Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) standards to utilize outside funding sources to help make the project a reality.
Designed with families, veterans, and EKU students in mind, the project is comprised of three separate buildings all containing different types of living environments: Single-story apartments in various sizes, as well as two-story townhome-style units. In one building there are several classroom spaces which can be utilized by residents or the University.
The intent with this project has been to create an arrangement of buildings that encourage – and create – a sense of community. After all – “it takes a village” has never rung truer than in situations where low-income, single parents are working hard to get an education while raising a family.
