DeTroy Price

est. August 31, 2022

Driven, dauntless, hard working, persistent, uplifting, a pro source on where to find the best hot wings… these are just a few of the key things that come to mind when we think of DeTroy, but there’s one particular trait that DeTroy has mastered above all else: Attitude. DeTroy comes in every day ready to work, ready to help, ready to learn.  He has perfected the art of imperfection and treats every situation – good or bad – as an opportunity to learn and grow.  This can be a difficult and stressful occupation, but DeTroy navigates it with grace, respect, and a dashing smile.

If iA were a sandwich, no doubt DeTroy would be the special sauce… or maybe the ice cold glass of sweet tea you need to wash it all down.  You be the judge.

And now (drum roll please) we are honored to present our latest and greatest of the Studio Session series, Vol. 16 DeTroy Price!

Where are you from and how did you land in architecture?
I am from Lexington, Kentucky. I landed in the architecture field because I wanted to take a career path that seemed more promising for my future, plus I knew I had a knack for designing things.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?
I wanted to be an architect, builder, or graphic designer.

Where and when did you go to school / college?
I graduated from Bluegrass Community & Technical College in 2020.

Describe in a few sentences your role at iA.
My role here at iA as a Project Designer is to work with Project Managers along with our consultants to make sure that our drawings are complete and ready to go to bid.

What trends in the architectural industry is currently sparking your interest?
Shipping container homes and modern style homes.

Describe an iA project you have recently worked on. Regarding the project, what kind of challenges had to be solved and what was interesting about it?
The East Marshall Fire Station would be a great example. We were reviving a building that was destroyed by the tornado that tore through western Kentucky in December of 2021. We had to work our openings around the PEMB that had already been delivered to the site. Everything still turned out great.

If you had the opportunity to design any building or product with unlimited funds and resources what would it be?
I would design a modern-style home that is separated into two buildings, connected by a pedway with a storefront that crosses a pond so you can see the water. I would dig a moat around the house as well.

What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?
Professionally, I am passionate about my work in the architecture field and doing it to the best of my ability. Personally, I’m passionate about God, family, and just life in general.

What are some of your professional goals?
